Marvel tapped our visual effects team led by VFX Supervisor Nikos Kalaitzidis to work on the storm sequence inside the Quantum Realm. The team used initial concept art created for the Quantum Realm as their guide, but they were tasked with creating the storms entirely.
Contrary to the physics of our world, everything within the Quantum Realm from geometric shapes, displacements, textures, colors, lens breathing all had to be animated. It had to appear as if the landscape itself were alive and breathing. We also worked on some environment work in the end tag sequence.
The team of more than 150 artists split across our Los Angeles, Vancouver and Hyderabad studios delivered the nearly 90 shots for the kaleidoscopic sequence.
