04.06.17The Legendary Diva is Reborn, Ushering in a New Era of ‘Technotainment’
(6 April 2017, Hong Kong) Digital Domain Holdings Limited (the “Company” or “Digital Domain;” stock code: 547), one of the largest and most innovative providers of visual effects and virtual reality (VR) experiences, today announced the premiere of its latest 5-D creation featuring “virtual humans.” The new show 《Today We Meet Again • The Virtual Teresa Teng Music Magical Show》 was created in collaboration with Syntrend Creative Park.
The show will be presented from 6 to 10 May 2017 at the Syntrend Clapper Studio in Taipei. A virtual rendition of Teresa Teng, considered one of the “Five Great Asian Divas,” will appear in the new musical stage-show thanks to Digital Doman’s unique cutting-edge 5-D technology. This show showcases the results of the long-term collaboration between Digital Domain and Syntrend Creative Park in expanding the use of “virtual humans” in cultural and entertainment industries through the use of new technology.
Using a butterfly as the show’s central symbol, the show tells the legendary story of Taiwanese pop singer Teresa Teng using a digital avatar. This “virtual human” technology from Digital Domain captures the facial expressions and body movements of a real person. The musical show format also encompasses outstanding stage design and performances, allowing Teresa Teng to appear in front of audiences again. As an extraordinary 5-D, multi-sensory experience, the show will break the traditional mould, bringing audiences into the musical story through interactions with Teresa Teng.
Mr. Teng Chang Fu, Chairman of the Teresa Teng Foundation, said, “I’m glad the world’s leading visual experience companies, Digital Domain and Syntrend, have brought my beloved sister ‘back to life’ using their incredible technology. I believe Teresa’s precious music and love can bring tremendous joy to new audiences. My family and I, along with thousands of fans around the world, are eagerly anticipating this new musical event.”
Mr. Gou Shou-cheng, Chairman of Syntrend Creative Park, commented that “Syntrend shares the same goal as Digital Domain, which is to develop the most innovative technology to enrich consumers’ lives through entertainment experiences. I have to express my appreciation to Digital Domain for bringing us this magical performance from Teresa Teng through their cutting-edge technology. We are all looking forward to this unprecedented event, which we hope inspires others to develop new technology that can impact our culture.”
Mr. Daniel Seah, executive director and Chief Executive Officer of Digital Domain, said, “Digital Domain has been working to recreate magical moments from Teresa Teng since 2013. Now, this Magical Musical marks a milestone in the technology and entertainment industries. Teresa Teng is a musical legend, and we are honored to collaborate with the Teresa Teng Foundation to make this moment a reality. I would also like to thank my creative team for their efforts in technological development.”
He continued, saying, “It is also an honor for us to collaborate with Syntrend Creative Park. By working closely with Syntrend, we hope that we can create more ‘virtual humans’ and virtual reality content that helps establish a new ‘technotainment’ ecosystem.”
The “virtual human” technology from Digital Domain has long been praised. In 2008, the company’s visual effects appeared in the film “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” in which actor Brad Pitt portrays a unique man who is born old and gradually becomes younger. In 2012, Digital Domain also created a digital avatar of American rapper Tupac Shakur, who died in 1996, for a performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The vivid virtual image of the artist aroused heated discussions around the world. In 2013, Digital Domain created ‘virtual human’ of Teresa Teng for a concert with Jay Chou, an internationally renowned singer from Taiwan.
