Digital Domain Teams Up Again with CCTV Spring Festival Gala to Demonstrate the Pristine Culture of Ethnic Minorities Using VR

A technology-powered cultural feast provides a new experience like no other

 

(16 February 2018, Beijing) - Digital Domain Holdings Limited (the “Company” or “Digital Domain;” stock code: 547), one of the largest and most innovative providers of visual effects and virtual reality (VR) experiences, announced today that it has teamed up with China Central Television (CCTV) Technology Production Center to produce the VR promo video for the 2018 CCTV Spring Festival Gala’s sub-venue in Southeast Guizhou. This is the second collaboration on the Spring Festival show for Digital Domain and CCTV. The two organizations first teamed up in 2017 for the Year of the Rooster. Taking advantage of the unique immersive experience of VR, Digital Domain is helping to deliver the much-anticipated Spring Festival Gala to numerous homes.

Over the past few years, the Spring Festival Gala has closely followed the steps of technology development, and cutting-edge technologies such as electronic ‘hongbao,’ drones, and holograms.   Thanks to the immersive qualities of VR, viewers will be able to enjoy the festivities like never before through smartphones or VR headsets. The 2018 CCTV Spring Festival Gala for the Year of the Dog will continue to adopt the “main venue + sub-venues” model. This time, Digital Domain has teamed up with the sub-venue in Southeast Guizhou to showcase symbols and tradition of the local culture through the 360-degree photographic techniques, demonstrating the strong emotional connections of people from different ethnic groups.

 

3,000 people performed in the 9-minute VR promo video. In addition to the festival traditions of the local Dong people such as singing, long-table banquet, and “Tai Guan Ren,” the video also featured everyday details of the locals and their Chinese New Year activities. In addition, Digital Domain also produced two featurettes: “Growth” and “Blessing” for the Spring Festival. Starting today, viewers can review the VR content through CCTV. and CCTV.com’s mobile app, and enjoy the technology-powered 2018 Spring Festival Gala from a 360-degree angle.
