LE SYNOPSIS
For The Conjuring: Last Rites, the climactic final installment of the acclaimed horror franchise from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros., award-winning VFX studio Digital Domain served as the lead visual effects vendor. Under the direction of VFX Supervisor Alex Millet and in close collaboration with Production VFX Supervisor Scott Edelstein, the team delivered 425 shots, crafting large-scale CG environments, photoreal creature effects, set extensions, and more. This includes the 12-foot terrifying transformation of the iconic Annabelle doll and the haunting smile of Abigail Arnold.
Digital Domain also created full CG environments and complex FX destruction for a key sequence involving the haunted Conjuring Mirror, including digital hallway reconstructions, mirror extension, and seamless integration of CG and live-action elements. The team digitally built the small Pennsylvania town setting using CG and matte painting, recreated a CG dog, added fire and injury effects, enhanced scenes with invisible VFX, and even generated a CG baby for realism. Across all work, Digital Domain employed tools like Houdini, Maya, Nuke, Solaris, and Vray to bring the director’s vision to life.
